If you seek for unique nature experiences, combined with tastes of Hardanger, this is the trip for you. The trip starts in Jondal by the fjord, where the glacier guide wish you welcome and take you by bus to Folgefonna Summerski Center at 1200 m a.s.l.

We provide you with all necessary glacier equipment for crossing the glacier from west to east. Directly from the Summerski Center we enter the Folgefonna National Park and continue to the highest point of Nordfonna, the northernmost part of the Folgefonna glacier. The summit at 1644 m a.s.l. offer you the most breath-taking and spectacular view of the fjords, Hardangervidda in the east and the North sea in the West. From the top of the glacier, the trip goes north and out of the glacier to Reiseteskardet, a mountain pass overlooking the fjord and the mountains. Here it’s time to serve you a good and nourishing lunch as well as stories told by our well experienced and educated glacier guide.






























After lunch you are descending from 1200 m a.s.l. to 300 m a.s.l. This is an historic route used for communication and trading between the people living on each side of the glacier. Poles can be used to save your knees for the long descending.

The walk ends in Vikebygd Landscape Park, where you meet the real Norwegians in genuine and traditional surroundings. You will get the feeling of how people in Hardanger lived for more than 100 years ago, and how the farmers take care of the traditions in a modern world. In “Bestastovo” (“Grandmothers livingroom”) at Reisete, the local host Åse Marie will serve you a fantastic three course traditional Norwegian dinner made of local food from the local farms.

After a real “Hardanger food” experience it might be hard to get your feet’s started again. We are prepared to shuttle you the remaining 3 km down to the Hardangerfjord, where the boat called “Pilagutt” is waiting for you. Now you can enjoy 1, 5 hours fjord cruise from Reisete back to Jondal. The fjord was the main communication line in Hardanger before we got roads. The view from the boat gives you a new dimension of Hardanger, and makes the perfect contrast to the trip over the glacier.

Season
Arranged every Thursday in July and August 2010. Booking in advance, minimum 6 persons. The trip can be arranged daily for groups from 1. July to 15. September.

Fits for
Everyone above 12 years old and in normal conditions.

Equipment Each participant needs warm/wind/water proof clothing, sun glasses, sun lotion, gloves, mountain boots, lunch food.

We will supply you with glacier safety equipment, this includes harness, iceaxe, rope, crampons, helmet, ski poles, and snow shoes. If you need clothing and mountain boots this is possible to rent from us.

Cooperation
This product is a unique cooperation between companies on both sides of the glacier. The involved companies are Folgefonni Breførarlag AS, Vikebygd landscape park, Bestastovo farm restaurant and Pilagutt fjord cruise.

Price
From 1890 NOK pr. Person. This includes bus from Jondal to Folgefonna Summer ski centre, glacier guiding to Reisete (also including glacier equipment), dinner at Bestastovo, and transport by Pilagutt back to Jondal. 10% family discount (3 or more from same family).
